This photo was taken in our backyard this week. Thanks to Fancy Nancy our girl taken a liking to the butterfly and lady bug, and usually anything non-threatening. We have had to empty pockets full of roly polys before the kids enter the house!?! Much to the kids disappointment ladybugs and butterflies do not frequent our yard. We attempted to get our own ladybug colony going only to receive a letter in the mail saying that the weather is too hot to ship the ladybugs and they would die during delivery. Guess that will be a late fall or early spring project if you live in the south?!? I planted these flowers knowing that they attract butterflies but not knowing how effective our catch would be. This week the kids caught this butterfly enjoying our purple flowers and they were so excited, creeping on tip toe to get closer and closer so she would not fly away. This is the best picture I could get in such a hurry. They keep asking every day when she is going to return. I did not know this until recently but the lifespan of a butterfly is usually about 10 days. Not long at all! They are so fragile and beautiful at the same time. It is kind of like our own lives. God has created us and He can change us just like the butterfly, going from a not so nice caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly. Our lives are fragile, too, and we have not been guaranteed another day (I hope I have longer than 10 days), which is why we should live every day as it was our most important day and enjoy the "small moments" that life brings. This butterfly was our small moment. Enjoy your small moment.
